More about Azure DevOps

Azure DevOps is a comprehensive DevOps platform from Microsoft that covers the entire software development lifecycle. It provides integrated capabilities for planning, development, delivery, and operations of applications.

History

Azure DevOps evolved from Team Foundation Server (TFS), which was developed by Microsoft under the leadership of Brian Harry in 2005. The platform went through several evolutions, from Visual Studio Team System through Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS), before being reimagined as Azure DevOps in 2018.

The transformation was driven by Sam Guckenheimer and Buck Hodges, who pursued the vision of a modern, cloud-native DevOps platform. The introduction of Azure Pipelines as a YAML-based CI/CD system marked a significant milestone in the infrastructure-as-code movement.

Today, Azure DevOps is a central pillar in Microsoft's developer tools strategy and is used by many Fortune 500 companies. The platform has significantly influenced the evolution of modern DevOps practices and continues to set standards in areas such as pipeline automation, artifact management, and DevSecOps integration.
